YOU WILL NEED

  • Two pieces of cream moiré satin material, 18cm square and two pieces 14cm x 19cm
  • A rose motif napkin
  • Ironable film
  • DMC stranded cotton, shade 3825
  • DMC gold mouline metallise, shade 5282
  • Sharp pointed scissors
  • Cream sewing cotton
  • Pot pourri

The Sachet

1 With right sides together, pin and tack the two squares of fabric together, taking a 1.5cm seam and leaving a 5cm opening along one of the sides. Trim diagonally across the corners and turn to the right side.

2 Roughly cut out a rose motif from the napkin and peel away the top layer. On your ironing board, on top of a soft cloth, place the napkin motif right side facing downwards, with the rough side of the ironable film on top.

3 Press with a medium warm iron until the two have fused together. Carefully cut out the motif and remove the backing paper. Place in the centre of your sachet and with the soft cloth on top, press once again with a warm iron.

4 Fill the sachet with pot pourri and sew up the opening. To make the tassels, cut a piece of card 6cm wide and wind the peach and gold thread around it several times.

5 Cut a length of the peach cotton, thread through the loops at the top of the card and tie into a knot. Cut the cotton along the bottom edge, tie the tassel together 1cm from the top edge and hide the ends inside the tassel. Attach a tassel to each corner of the sachet. PC

The Bag

1 Sew the two pieces of material together in the same way as for the sachet, leaving the top of the bag open. Turn a 1.5cm hem to the inside and slip stitch in place.

2 Apply a single peach rose to the front of the bag, 5cm from the top, following the instructions for the sachet. Cut three 30cm lengths of peach and three 30cm lengths of gold thread and knot them together 5cm from the end.

3 Divide them into three pairs of a gold and peach thread, plait along the length and knot together again, 5cm from the end. Fill the bag with pot pourri, fold the plait in half and fasten the top of the bag together by winding the plait round the bag and securing by threading the ends of the plait through the loop.
